2022 Calder & Hebble (Come and Go)

Route

Description: Full-length Calder & Hebble Navigation Canal
Route: Sowerby Bridge to Wakefield route
Length: About 24 miles
Duration: 13 hours (10 hours moving time)

You can come and go as you please, but the full route will be from Sowerby Bridge train station, heading through Elland, Brighouse, Mirfield, Dewsbury, Horbury, Wakefield, stopping off at the famours Brookfoot Beach, and Horbury Beach (near Ossett Brewery) to finish at Fall Ings which is a 15 minute walk to Kirkgate Station or a 15 minute walk to Sandal & Agbrigg Station and so is good for services via Leeds or Dewsbury or Huddersfield.

We've walked most of the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal a few times, between Sowerby Bridge, Savile Town (Dewsbury), and Wakefield, though not quite as far as Fall Ings, being about 25 miles and about 13 hours with about 9 hours moving time according to Strava.

We propose a group walk with multiple points to join and leave, ideal points being:
